My name is Raleigh and my favorite place to be is outside.

As an exterior designer, I consider  outdoor areas, whether a private retreat or a grand first impression, just as important as the indoors. In the same way someone may hire an interior designer to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing room, my clients hire me for my technical knowledge of horticulture, outdoor furnishings, lighting and garden structures that enhance livable outdoor square footage. 

I like to describe my style as aspirational, similar to the Classical World but as low key as the Appalachian Mountains: I aim to reference forms and proportions that have stood the test of time while using native materials familiar to me and generations of families from the Appalachians; I was born and raised in Boone, North Carolina - where I live and work today. 

I consider myself an artist because my designs are born out of my lifelong friendship with nature; many of the hardwoods used to construct my products are locally gathered from the forest adjacent to my childhood home. Other elements and found objects incorporated into my work are intended to evoke the same sense of place and aesthetic heritage. 

When I’m not in the woods or sourcing materials for clients, you can find me golfing, road biking, or dining al fresco with friends and family.
